Paris Saint-Germain concede two goals in draw with Bordeaux

Defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are in a slight skid recently in the league with a 3-2 loss to Monaco and a 2-2 draw with Bordeaux. Even PSG superstar Neymar is not best pleased with his team’s form as of late.

This is one of the most competitive Ligue 1 seasons in recent history. PSG find themselves in a race for the title that involves six other legitimate contenders. This is a hard campaign for the Parisian giants which is their most difficult task since the 2016-17 season when Monaco shockingly upset PSG.

With the recent run of form, PSG’s players now have a rocky relationship with manager Thomas Tuchel. The German has done well in his time with the club highlighted by the Champions League final appearance in the 2019-20 season.

Bet on future Ligue 1 matches

At the moment, PSG sit atop the Ligue 1 standings with 25 points. However, Lille, Olympique Lyonnais, Monaco, Montpellier Hérault sit in the next four spots with 23 points respectively.  Olympique de Marseille is sixth with 21 points on the table.

The game against Bordeaux was a worrying development for PSG. They went down 0-1 when Timothee Pembele made a mistake by putting the ball into the back of his own net. PSG would then strike back quickly by scoring two goals in a space of a minute with Neymar’s penalty in the 27th minute and Moise Kean scoring in the 28th.

The game was supposed to be smooth sailing from there but Bordeaux scored with Yacine Adli in the 60th minute. It was a bad result for the Parisians because they had a significant lead when it came to the statistics.

PSG’s shots on target reached nine while Bordeaux only had four shots on target. The Parisians also had 66% of the possession which is a sign that they controlled most of the match. However, their opponents took advantage of some mistakes which led to the second goal.

With a second clash with Manchester United on the horizon in the Champions League, PSG needs to regain their form so they can remain competitive in their group as RB Leipzig is level with them at six points. If they fail to break away from the tie with Leipzig, they might miss out on the last 16 which will be a big disappointment.

Neymar talked about the down game against Bordeaux and how it affects PSG going forward. He said, ‘We have to improve because otherwise, whether in the league or in the Champions League, we have to do better. Usually we win more matches. On Wednesday, we will try to play our best game, to play well but we have to improve, play more as a team and be better organised otherwise it will be very difficult’.
