Lampard backed for the sack after Chelsea FC drop out of the Premier League title race and face a scramble to claim a Champions League spot.
On Saturday 5 December, Chelsea came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory over Leeds United and it firmly appeared as though the London side would challenge for the Premier League title this season, with the new signings starting to gel at both ends of the pitch.
However, the past six Premier League matches have not gone as planned and the Blues only have a further five points on the board from a possible eighteen, with Frank Lampard firmly behind the eight-ball after a run of games where Chelsea have struggled to put a decent performance together.
Frank Lampard is apparently going to be given time at Stamford Bridge despite a slump in form which has seen Chelsea drop to ninth in the table, with the Blues losing away to Everton, Wolves and Arsenal as part of the poor run, although they did manage to beat West Ham 3-0.
In their past two matches, Chelsea have been held to a 1-1 draw by a strong Aston Villa before being turned over at home to Manchester City and perhaps expectation levels are unrealistic for a manager who is still a relative rookie considering this is only his second full season in charge at the Bridge.
Several bookies such as William Hill and Unibet have Lampard as their Sack Race betting favourite, with the 42-year-old trading at around the even money mark to be the second top-flight manager out of a job after Slaven Bilic was given his marching orders at West Brom a few weeks ago.
There have been indications that Lampard will be given some time at Chelsea FC to improve the team’s fortunes and there is a Champions League last sixteen clash looming on the horizon, although Roman Abramovich is not renowned for being a particularly patient owner and he will be concerned about the dip in form.
Chelsea are now odds-against to claim a top four spot and qualify for the Champions League again which is clearly not up to the required standard considering that Lampard was backed in the transfer market to land players such as Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech.
