While the magic of the FA Cup is not as strong as a few years ago, it’s still an excellent weekend of football and there are some intriguing match-ups for the third round of the competition which could result in a few shocks.
In this article, we look at three FA Cup third round matches where we feel there could be an upset on the cards. We’re likely to see several of the leading teams rest their strongest players and they could be vulnerable as a result.
BLACKPOOL to beat West Brom @ 3/1 with Unibet
West Bromwich Albion are possibly the worst Premier League team of all time and Sam Allardyce has done very little to stem the flow of bad results at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies will head to Bloomfield Road caring very little about making progress in the FA Cup this season and this could play into the hands of a Blackpool side who are looking bright in League One this season and will be ready to give things their best shot.
BRISTOL ROVERS v Sheffield United @ 7/2 with Unibet
The Blades are struggling badly in the Premier League this season and already look doomed, although Chris Wilder won’t have given up hope just yet. Therefore, he could be ready to field a reserve team at the Memorial Stadium and Bristol Rovers look a big price.
The Gas are in excellent form and they have won four of their most recent five games, so the 7/2 about a home victory looks ripe for the taking, with the visitors unlikely to be motivated for this encounter.
NEWPORT COUNTY v Brighton & Hove Albion @ 6/1 with William Hill
We actually think Newport could be the bet of the weekend at 6/1 to win this FA Cup clash considering that the League Two side are made of stern stuff. The Exiles have previously enjoyed successes in this competition against the larger clubs and Brighton might not appreciate the conditions in south Wales.
Indeed, the Seagulls are certain to be much changed as Graham Potter tries to plot a way out of trouble and we think the home side are certainly worth an outside punt at the odds.
