Steve Bruce wasn’t exactly a popular appointment when he replaced Rafael Benitez at the beginning of the 2019/20 season at St James’ Park and the majority of Newcastle United supporters continued to reserve their judgement after a mediocre season despite the Magpies finishing well clear of the drop zone.
